India - Indien

Yesterday I was at a meeting at the city hall in the municipal of Vara were I work as a teacher. We are a group of teachers from different schools, teaching different ages, that meet up at least one a month to discuss and lead school developing projects and ideas. Over the years Swedish schools have participated in comparative tests in Europe and the world and our maths results have been quite bad for a number of years now even though Swedish schools have a lot of recourses compared to countries like India. India in test after test shows wonderful results particularly in maths. We have now been granted a large sum of money so that 8 of us in this group can go to India later this year to the county of Andra Pradash to a small city (small for India!!!) named Srikakulam to study schools in this area. We will have discussions with teachers in India how they work and we will also focus on what we are good at here in Sweden and what we can learn our Indian colleagues. Besides hopefully getting a very thorough insight in the Indian education system I hope to get a glimpse of this fantastic country!! Next spring teachers we will meet in India will come to Vara.

Igår var jag på möte i Varas kommunhus. Jag ingår i en grupp som jobbar med skolutvecklingsfrågor. Vi vet att Sveriges resultat i jämförelse med andra länder i vissa ämnen som matte inte ser så bra ut trots att vi har bra resurser. I Indien ser resultaten oerhört bra ut och nu har vi beviljats en stora summa pengar så att vi får möjlighet att åka till Indien och delstaten Andra Pradash och den ”lilla” staden Srikakulam. Där skall vi under ungefär en veckas tid studera indiska skolor och hur de jobbar. Vi skall även delge lärarna där vad vi är bra på. Förutom att vi skall få en djupare insikt i det indiska skolsystemet hoppas jag att få till livs lite av vad detta stora fantastiska land har att erbjuda!! Till våren skall en del av de lärare vi möter i Indien komma till oss.
